Vom 29. Mai bis 5. Juni 2026 ist es endlich wieder soweit – das internationale Festival blickwechsel bringt zeitgenössisches Figurentheater aus der ganzen Welt nach Magdeburg. Den Anfang macht wieder la notte, als großes Spektakel unter freiem Himmel in der Stadt. Mit dieser Ausgabe, unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Ania Michaelis, Sofie Neu und Miriam Locker, erweitern wir das Angebot für junges Publikum und etablieren die Dialogtage, in denen der Austausch untereinander und mit den Künstler*innen im Fokus steht.
Der weiße Elefant taucht in Rainer Maria Rilkes Gedicht Das Karussell immer wieder auf – und steht für Fest und Rausch, für Jahrmarkt und Magie – für das Außergewöhnliche im Gewöhnlichen, für das plötzliche Aufscheinen von Bedeutung und für vielfältige Sichtweisen auf die Welt in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher Umbrüche und multipler Krisen.
Das blickwechsel-Festival 2026 lädt ein, sich der Welt zuzuwenden, mit ihr in Verbindung zu bleiben: staunend, kritisch, reflektierend, feiernd, Perspektiven erweiternd. Mit Figurentheater, Objekttheater, Cirque Nouveau und wildem Spektakel entsteht mitten in Magdeburg eine Woche lang ein fantastischer Geschichtenraum – für die Stadt und weit darüber hinaus.

and now and then a white elephant
29 May – 5 June 2026, Magdeburg
From 29 May to 5 June 2026, it will finally be that time again – the international festival blickwechsel will bring contemporary puppet theatre from all over the world to Magdeburg. Once again, the well known la notte will kick things off with a grand open-air spectacle in the city. With this edition, under the artistic direction of Ania Michaelis, Sofie Neu and Miriam Locker, we are expanding our offerings for young audiences and establishing the Dialogue Days, which focus on exchange among participants and with the artists.
The white elephant appears repeatedly in Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem Das Karussell (The Carousel) – representing celebration and intoxication, fairgrounds and magic – the extraordinary in the ordinary, the sudden appearance of meaning and diverse perspectives on the world in times of social upheaval and multiple crises.
The blickwechsel Festival 2026 invites us to turn our attention to the world and stay connected with it: with wonder, critical thinking, reflection, celebration and broadened perspectives. With puppet theatre, object theatre, Cirque Nouveau and wild spectacle, a fantastic storytelling space will be created in the heart of Magdeburg for a whole week – for the city and far beyond.
